Pumpkin Eraser Towers

Hi there!  I wanted to share a quick activity that Miss E and I did this morning.  I have tons of those cheap, seasonal erasers you can find in the Target dollar section.  I pulled out my pumpkin erasers out today for a toddler school activity:  Pumpkin Eraser Towers!

We even practiced counting by counting the pumpkins as she put them on!

I love buying the seasonal erasers from the Target dollar section.  You could use any erasers you have!  It's a super cheap activity that my toddler loved, and yours will, too!

These erasers are also great for practicing counting with one-to-one correspondence.  I used these all the time as a kindergarten teacher, and I'll do the same with Miss E one of these days.

I'll post about our Letter C activities later today or tomorrow!

How I Do Toddler School: What Works for Me!

Now that I've been doing my version of Toddler School for a few weeks now, I wanted to take time to write about what works for me!

As a former teacher turned stay-at-home-mom, I've learned that I really like having a rough plan for my day.  I have two kids: Miss E is 2 1/2, and Miss L is only two months old.  Miss L still naps most of the morning, leaving lots of time for me to do activities with Miss E.  Miss E plays very well independently, but I like to make time for us to do school activities (and other activities) every day.

When I taught kindergarten, I structured my guided reading groups so that I had a repetitive plan for Monday through Friday.  For example, on Mondays, I introduced a letter and one or two new sight words.  The rest of the week was filled with specific activities.  When I started brainstorming for Toddler School, I decided to have a plan for teaching letters and doing activities.

Although Miss E already knows her letters and sounds, we can dig so much deeper!  For example, we're reinforcing her knowledge of sounds.  We're also working on first sounds in words.

So, I made a planning template that I use every week to plan our activities.  Each day, we do specific activities about that week's letter.  Then, I always plan two additional activities.  If we have time, we'll do more.  But I like to be realistic, especially with a baby in the house!  Here are the pages I created:

If you're interested in the plans, click here to download them from Google Drive!

I also made a bunch of materials that you'll see used each week.  I'll share these in another post!

Letter of the Week: Bb {Tuesday-Friday}

Whew!  I'm way behind in writing about our Toddler School activities!  It's been a crazy couple weeks with trips out of town, but we've still been doing school.  I just haven't blogged about it!

Here's a recap of some of the activities we did on Tuesday through Friday of Bb week.

Tuesday
1. We reviewed uppercase and lowercase Bb and the sound for Bb.
2. We traced the letter Bb on our tracing page.
3. We made the letter book about Bb.
4. We did the Bb dot page.

For our other activities on Tuesday, we did shaving cream painting (I don't have a picture -sorry!) and then we did a File Folder Puzzle activity that I made.

Wednesday
1. We reviewed the letter Bb and the sound.
2. We traced the letter Bb on our tracing page.
3. We reread our letter Bb book that we made on Tuesday.
4. We rainbow traced Bb.
5. We did the sensory tub letter sort for Bb.

For our other activities on Wednesday, we did some sequencing cards that I bought a few years ago.  I'll take a picture next time!

Thursday
1. We reviewed the letter Bb and the sound.
2. We traced the letter Bb on our tracing page.
3. We reread our letter Bb book that we made on Tuesday.
4. We did our art page for the letter Bb.  We stuck band-aids on the page!  Miss E thought that this was pretty silly!

For our other activity on Thursday, we made a berry smoothie!  Yes, that's blue yogurt!  The only blueberry yogurt I had was a blueberry tube yogurt for kids, which is blue. It added to the fun for sure!

We also went outside and picked up some fall leaves.  Miss E stuck them onto contact paper for a quick and easy activity.

We didn't do school on Friday because we had a playdate instead!  We had so much fun
